Methodology

I check every factual claim on this site against a source I fetched and read, never against general knowledge or a search snippet. Each source goes into the project's research files with its exact URL and the date I read it, and that record stays attached to the claim. The page itself shows the handful of references a reader would want to open; the rest of the record sits behind it.

When I cannot trace a claim to a source like that, I leave it out or mark it plainly as a schematic design choice rather than a documented fact.

I draw every method page from at least two independent sources: one current bindery, manufacturer or commercial printing source, and one independent craft, conservation or academic source. When the two disagree on how a binding opens or what to call it, I add a third to settle it and note the resolution next to the claim it affects.

Every page shows the date I last reviewed it in the footer, and every method and guide page repeats it under the title. When a source changes, a claim needs correcting or new research closes a gap, I revisit the page and move that date.

If a diagram or a sentence here disagrees with a source you trust, I want to know. I check the correction against the source in question, apply it, and record it in that page's review date. The address is [email protected].

I leave three things out on purpose. There are no tutorials: each page explains how a structure is built and how it opens, not how to make one. There are no printer or vendor recommendations and no affiliate links. And there are no figures for cost, durability, page capacity or opening angle unless a cited source states that figure itself, in which case it appears in the source's own words.

There is no single bibliography. Each method page ends with the key references for that binding, and I keep the full record of every claim and its source in the project's research files. Start with Browse all eleven and open any method page from there.
